KOTA KINABALU: Three men have been charged for stealing and illegally selling electricity at a squatter area in Sandakan district.
The Sabah Energy Commission said in a statement that the three men, Sumailah Cuba, Zaini Mubin and Ahmad Safuan Baharuddin, were nabbed during an integrated operation from July 1 to July 3.
The commission said that Sumailah, an Indonesian passport holder, was fined RM129,000 under various sections of the Electric Supply Enactment 2024.
Zaini, an IMM13 (Filipino refugee) holder, was fined a total of RM194,000 for various offences under the same act. He could be jailed between one and three months if he failed to pay the fine.
Ahmad, a Malaysian, was fined RM8,000 for two offences under the same act, and he paid the fine thereafter.
The two non-Malaysians are required to be referred to the Immigration Department to have their passport and IMM13 document cancelled, and would be up for deportation after they finish serving their sentence.
However, as Sumailah was unable to pay his fine, he was ordered to be deported and have his passport cancelled as soon as possible.
The commission said that continued enforcement will be conducted, with a total of 36 more cases detected under the same raid, which is under police and court procedures.
