KULAI: Khairy Jamaluddin has hit out at Pakatan Harapan for resorting to fear-based campaigning by claiming that a vote for Barisan Nasional would indirectly benefit PAS.
The former Umno youth chief said Pakatan was attempting to frighten Chinese voters with talk of a so-called “green wave”, stressing that Barisan was contesting the Johor state election on its own and was not aligned with any other political party.
“They are trying to scare Chinese voters by saying there is a ‘green wave’. A vote for Barisan is not a vote for PAS or any other party.
“Barisan is not working with any other party. This is a ‘blue wave’, and we hope Johoreans will create that blue wave on polling day,” he told reporters after campaigning with Barisan candidates in the Kulai parliamentary constituency on here on Thursday (July 9)
Khairy also took aim at Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, claiming the “green wave” narrative had been echoed by government leaders during campaign events.
He said Barisan remained confident of retaining Bukit Permai and wresting Bukit Batu after losing the seat by fewer than 200 votes in the last state election, while acknowledging that Senai would be the coalition’s toughest contest after it lost by more than 5,000 votes previously.
Nevertheless, Khairy said Barisan was seeing more encouraging support on the ground, particularly among Malay and Chinese voters.
“I see a more positive mood towards Barisan this time, especially among Malay voters and non-Malay voters, particularly the Chinese community. We hope to receive strong support from all races in Johor because Barisan is for everyone – Malays, Chinese, Indians and the Orang Asli,” he said.
Khairy also pointed to Johor’s economic performance under the Barisan-led state administration as proof that a strong and stable government delivers results.
He urged voters to give caretaker Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi a stronger mandate to continue the state’s development agenda.
Khairy also urged voters to rely on verified information in the campaign’s final days and not be misled by false claims circulating on social media.
