KUCHING: A 37-year-old woman was burnt to death, while her mother sustained second-degree burns, during a fire that destroyed their single-storey house.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department identified the deceased as Nurul Farhana Amerudin.
The mother, Sharifah Bok Wan Muhsin, 65, suffered burns to her face, neck, back, hands and the soles of her feet.
According to the department, it received an emergency call at 12.29am yesterday and firemen from the Serian Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the scene in Kampung Tubih Batu Raung, Serian.
“Two victims were involved in the fire. A 65-year-old woman sustained second-degree burns. She was taken to Hospital Serian before firemen arrived at the scene.
“The other victim, a 37-year-old woman, was found burnt to death in the bathroom,” the department said in a statement, Bernama reported.
The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation.
