LABIS: DAP has been accused of double standards for asking Johor voters to reject MCA over Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh while its own assemblymen serve in the same Melaka state government as him.
MCA vice-president Datuk Lim Ban Hong (pic) said DAP was urging Johor voters to protest against Akmal using their ballots, despite working alongside him in Melaka.
“In Melaka, DAP assemblymen are part of the state government. Akmal is also in the state executive council.
“They attend meetings together and serve in the same administration.
“But when they come to Johor, they tell voters to protest against Akmal. That is saying one thing and doing another,” he said while campaigning for Barisan Nasional candidates Tan Chong in Bekok and Tuan Haji Mohd Azahar Ibrahim in Tenang on Saturday (July 4).
Lim, who is also the Kelebang assemblyman, said DAP joined the Melaka government in April 2023 although Barisan Nasional had already secured a two-thirds majority with 21 of the state's 28 seats in the 2021 election.
“Barisan did not need Pakatan Harapan to govern Melaka, but DAP still joined the state government and is now working with Akmal,” he said.
He claimed DAP was raising the Akmal issue in Johor because it had no better economic plan or development blueprint for the state.
Lim also dismissed claims that Perikatan Nasional was giving way to Barisan in the Johor election, saying Barisan had always intended to contest all 56 seats.
“When a coalition contests every seat, it is seeking a clear mandate based on its record since 2022 in developing Johor and attracting investments,” he said.
He urged voters to support leaders with a proven track record who were committed to serving the people, saying such a choice would benefit Johor's future.
