MUAR: Caretaker Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi has dispelled accusations that Johor’s imbalanced development pushed people to migrate elsewhere, citing the Johor Economic Transformation Plan which focused on all 10 districts in the state.
“For Muar, we have the Maharani Energy Gateway, which was personally launched by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.
“The state government fully supports this project because of its spillover effect, especially for businesses and job opportunities,” he said after visiting the Barisan Nasional election machinery in the area.
He explained that under the transformation plan, each district would have its own niche that would be developed.
“I am sure the local Johoreans will be able to see and feel the economic development taking place especially via welfare programmes such as Bantuan Kasih Johor,” he said.
Onn Hafiz also addressed the matter concerning his remarks about a week ago that he was barred from entering a Felda settlement to present land titles to settlers and that the venue for a Johor Felda Settlers Day celebration had to be changed.
He said the incident took place before the campaigning for the Johor election had started.
“During this campaign period, there has been no issue. Anyway, I got a letter from the Felda management that that programme had been postponed due to technical reasons,” he added.
He also said that he wanted to move on from the incident and focus on the campaign.
Onn Hafiz’s earlier comments about the Felda incident had prompted Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to respond.
Anwar said on Tuesday that no one was being stopped from entering Felda schemes in Johor and the people should not use government assets during the campaign period.
