KUALA LUMPUR: The new Malaysian international passport, equipped with 94 security features, is scheduled to be launched today.
The launch ceremony is expected to be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Parliament lobby.
According to Bernama, the upgraded passport is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance the security of national identity documents, in line with its status as one of the world’s most powerful passports.
The new version marks a significant upgrade from the current passport, which contains 49 security features, making it more resistant to forgery.
Among the enhanced features are holographic elements, ultraviolet (UV) printing, hidden visual elements and specialised forensic security features.
Security improvements have also been incorporated into the binding thread of the passport booklet, while each page features a unique design layout.
The rollout of the new passport was previously delayed from its initial launch date of June 1.
In January, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced that Malaysia would introduce redesigned passports and MyKad identity documents to strengthen data security.
