Pakatan says focusing on outreach, manifesto

KULAI: Pakatan Harapan has kept the identity of its Johor mentri besar candidate under wraps, as the coalition shifts its full attention to campaigning and presenting its election manifesto.

Its secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the coalition’s immediate priority is to ensure all its candidates reach out to voters across Johor.

He said the announcement on its mentri besar candidate will be made at an appropriate time.

“When the time comes, we will make the announcement. For now, we will continue to focus on our campaign,” he told reporters.

Saifuddin Nasution said Pakatan is expected to launch its manifesto soon after receiving final approval from the coalition’s top leadership, who will meet tomorrow.

“The manifesto focuses on economic stability and prosperity, people’s welfare, political stability, good governance, increasing state revenue and ensuring fair distribution of resources to the rakyat,” he said.

On another matter, Saifuddin Nasution, who is also Home Minister, said all necessary measures are being taken to prevent disruptions at the Causeway and other entry points on polling day.

He said the ministry has set up a special task force as a contingency measure to address any potential disruptions arising from the ongoing transition from the Malaysian Immigration System (MyIMMs) to the new National Integrated Immigration System (MyNIISe).

The immediate priority, he said, is to ensure smooth travel for voters on polling day.

“The old system is still in use as the transition to the new system is still in progress. So there is always a risk of disruption. That’s why we are putting every safeguard in place to avoid problems on July 11,” he said.

On the possibility of providing dedicated lanes for Malaysian voters returning from Singapore, Saifuddin Nasution said the government will explore all necessary measures.
