Candidates ensuring all in order for nomination day

JOHOR BARU: From first-time hopefuls nervously double-checking documents to seasoned politicians calmly going through familiar routines, candidates contesting in the Johor state election have been making their final preparations to ensure nothing derails their election bid.

Barisan Nasional candidate for the Puteri Wangsa seat, Teow Chia Ling, 42, said the eve of nomination day was spent making final checks.

“As this is my first time contesting in an election, I am naturally feeling a little nervous,” said the MCA candidate.

Pakatan Harapan candidate for Semerah, Mohd Khuzzan Abu Bakar, 52, said preparations had been completed days earlier.

“There is not much left to do except continue engaging with voters,” said the PKR candidate, who is contesting his fourth election.

For Malaysian Indian People’s Party candidate T. Vela, 36, who is contesting the Permas seat, the final stretch was spent navigating procedures and ensuring all paperwork was complete.

“As a new party contesting in an election, there were many procedures we were unfamiliar with and documents that had to be obtained from various parties.

“We spent almost eight hours discussing matters, completing forms and gathering the required documents. We only managed to finalise everything today,” he said.
