Consumer group urges increase in diesel subsidy quota for East Malaysia

KOTA KINABALU: Yayasan Pengguna Negara Malaysia calls for the Federal Government to raise the BUDI diesel subsidy quota from 200 to 300 litres per month in Sabah and Sarawak.

Its Sabah chairman, David Chan, stated that the current subsidy is inadequate due to higher travel distances and reliance on diesel vehicles in East Malaysia, especially in rural areas.

“Fuel consumption is naturally higher and should be reflected in subsidy allocation policies,” he said

The consumer group also recommends simplifying subsidy mechanisms to improve accessibility for eligible recipients.
