Mitra distributes laptops to 258 Indian undergraduates in Johor

JOHOR BARU: A total of 258 Indian undergraduates from lower-income (B40) families in Johor have received laptops under the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra)'s Student Device Programme.

The laptops were distributed to students from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) and City University during a ceremony at UTM on Friday (June 19).

"The Johor distribution has been completed as planned.

"The programme will be implemented in other states,” said Mitra director-general Ravindran Nair, representing Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan.

The programme is part of a nationwide initiative to provide new laptops to 3,000 eligible Indian undergraduates across the country.

The laptop initiative is a continuation of a nationwide programme launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Universiti Malaya on May 10.

During the launch, Anwar announced an increase in Mitra's allocation to RM150mil.
