JOHOR BARU: A majority of Amanah's candidates for the Johor state election will be fresh faces, says the party's Johor chief Aminolhuda Hassan.
He said that of the 19 candidates the party had proposed, only six had contested in previous elections.
"Of these new faces, about half are young people," he told reporters when met during the launch of the party's machinery for the Johor state election on Friday night(June 19).
He said that the party would also be fielding two women in the election.
"The seat distribution is quite spread out. There are about six in the northern region.
"In the central region, there are around five, and the remaining seats are on the East Coast and in the southern region," he said, adding that most of the candidates are locals.
On June 1, Johor caretaker Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced the dissolution of the Johor state assembly following the consent of Johor Regent, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.
The Election Commission has set July 11 as the polling day, with nomination day on June 27 and early voting on July 7.
