PUTRAJAYA: The Polytechnic and Community College Education Department (JPPKK) is coordinating nationwide student housing arrangements to ensure smooth registration for Session I 2026/ 2027, following online public concern over dormitory shortages.
In a statement yesterday, JPPKK said the initiative is aimed at closely monitoring accommodation requirements and identifying suitable support measures based on current needs and conditions at each institution.
It said polytechnics have also taken proactive steps to ensure students continue to have access to accommodation throughout their studies, Bernama reported.
“JPPKK calls on all students who have received admission offers to remain focused on beginning their studies. Students and parents are urged to place their confidence in the department and the respective polytechnics in addressing the issues.
“JPPKK remains committed to ensuring every student has access to quality education in a safe, conducive and inclusive learning environment, which prioritises the well-being of the people,” the statement said.
The department said the government’s continued emphasis on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) has contributed to more youth choosing to study at polytechnics.
The increasing enrolment, it added, reflects rising public confidence in the quality of Malaysia’s TVET ecosystem, graduate employability and career opportunities offered through the institutions.
The increase in student enrolment has resulted in hostel occupancy rates at polytechnics nearing full capacity, JPPKK revealed.
Recently, a post went viral online alleging that senior polytechnic students were facing difficulties securing on-campus accommodation and had been advised to seek rental housing off campus.
