Wild elephant chases terrified drivers

SEVERAL motorists in a town in Tamil Nadu faced a moment of sheer terror when a wild, rampaging forest elephant caught sight of them and gave chase, Makkal Osai reported.

Tensions were already running high in Erode following a deadly fortnight of wildlife encounters, which left a farmer dead just two weeks ago and another villager killed last week.

In one recent encounter, a motorist driving along the Hasanur-Dhimbam road spotted a wild elephant prowling the tarmac adjacent to the forest.

When the elephant saw the vehicle it gave chase, but the quick-thinking driver managed to outrun the animal.

A similar nightmare unfolded on the Thalavadi-Thalamalai road, where a motorcyclist was ambushed by another elephant.

Caught in a desperate situation, the rider managed to execute a frantic U-turn and fled the scene.
