PAS accuses Bersatu of betrayal and greed

PETALING JAYA: PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang delivered a blistering critique against Bersatu, accusing the party of opportunism, internal rot and actions that undermined efforts to unite the Muslims and preserve the coalition’s dignity.

In a Facebook post, he said PAS had embarked on a political partnership with Bersatu within the ambit of various Islamic frameworks such as ta’awun siyasi (political cooperation).

“This form of cooperation is the right method, unlike the “Sheraton Move” which is like a shortcut and later exploited by certain individuals seeking to promote themselves.

“Bersatu had strayed from the initial agenda of uniting the Muslim ummah.

“Instead it sought power through seat allocations to dominate the Muslim majority alongside the non-Muslim parties, and disregarding the position of Islam in governance or the dominance of the Malay bumiputra community,” he said yesterday.

Abdul Hadi said Bersatu tried to weaken PAS’s role in bringing political change by blocking the inclusion of more parties into Perikatan Nasional, such as Berjasa, Pejuang, Putra, Parti Perikatan India Muslim Nasional (Iman) as well as MIC.

He accused Bersatu of being greedy for seat allocations during the general election without considering the quality of candidates, organisational capability or membership strength.

“When campaign operations were conducted on the ground, many of Bersatu members were nowhere to be seen, resulting in PAS members doing the hard work,” he added.

Abdul Hadi also blamed Bersatu of betraying the PAS-led Perlis government, which resulted in the downfall of its mentri besar.
