Man who allegedly defamed Tok Batin remanded four days

IPOH: Police have arrested and remanded an individual for allegedly tarnishing the reputation of an Orang Asli Tok Batin (village chief) and rescued hiker Jaslinda Saludin.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said a four-day remand order has been granted against the individual, with the matter still being investigated.

"We have recorded eight statements, including from Jaslinda's husband and several Tok Batin.

"The case is being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955," he said in a press conference here on Friday (June 12).

"We want to advise the people not to post anything that is not verified, as it is slander," he added.

A TikTok user had alleged in a video that Lubuk Gaharu Orang Asli Tok Batin Mohd Asmmadi Abdullah had hidden Jaslinda in the village after she went missing for two weeks.

About 50 reports have been lodged by Orang Asli village chiefs and representatives from the Batang Padang, Muallim and Kinta districts.

Jaslinda went missing late last month during a hiking expedition at Gunung Batu Putih in Tapah.

She was found safe after being rescued by Orang Asli villagers on June 6.
