PETALING JAYA: Continued enforcement will be conducted to crack down on illegal business run by non-Malaysians as well as those illegally employing foreigners, says the Immigration Department.
Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said a total of 30,801 people have been detained for various immigration-related offences as of May 31.
“Of the figure, 2,324 of them were found to have misused their passes, including going against the original intended purpose of entering the country.
“We have also established annual Key Performance Indicators that emphasise enforcement action against foreign nationals and employers who commit immigration offences as part of efforts to strengthen compliance with the laws.
“In line with the government’s emphasis on intensifying action against pass misuse and illegal business activities, the department will continue to enhance enforcement operations and strengthen strategic cooperation with ministries, enforcement agencies and local authorities to ensure that all violations are addressed more effectively and comprehensively,” he said.
On Monday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said crackdowns on illegal business activities involving foreigners will be intensified.
He said a coordinated effort involving all relevant authorities, including the Inland Revenue Board, Customs Department, Immigration Department, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry, Digital Ministry and Kuala Lumpur City Hall, is necessary.
