MMEA gives critically ill man a boat lifeline

ALOR SETAR: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has successfully carried out a medical evacuation mission, transferring a critically ill patient from Langkawi to the mainland for urgent specialist treatment.

Kedah and Perlis MMEA director Maritime First Admiral Romli Mustafa said the agency received a request for assistance from Sultanah Maliha Hospital (HSM) to transfer a 52-year-old man suffering from a brain haemorrhage on Saturday.

He said the patient’s condition was critical and required specialist care at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) in Alor Setar.

“The patient was sedated and fully dependent on respiratory support through a ventilator.

“To ensure the mission was carried out swiftly and smoothly, Penggalang Boat 2 was deployed to transport the patient and four HSM medical personnel from the Langkawi maritime jetty to the Kuala Perlis jetty before he was taken to HSB,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Romli said the agency is committed to supporting humanitarian missions, including emergency medical evacuations, alongside maritime law enforcement and safeguarding the nation’s waters.
