Bukit Aman making preparations for state polls

IPOH: The Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department will step up preparations for manpower deployment and logistical needs for the upcoming state elections in Johor and Negri Sembilan.

Department director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the preparations are to ensure a smooth, safe and orderly election process.

“I am currently obtaining briefings from the respective contingents involved following the dissolution of the state legislative assemblies in both states.

“If the manpower available is insufficient, we will request additional personnel from nearby state contingents to strengthen operations during the election period,” he told reporters after witnessing the handover ceremony of Perak chief police here yesterday from Comm Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin to Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin.

Former Penang deputy police chief Mohd Alwi takes over as Perak police chief with immediate effect, while Noor Hisam will assume the Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK) director post.

On the logistical needs for two state elections, Mohd Yusri said assessments are still being carried out.

“We are still conducting evaluations because each state and contingent differs in terms of size, geographical coverage and terrain,” he said, adding that deployment and logistical needs would depend on those factors.

He also advised the public to comply with all regulations and instructions issued by the authorities and the Election Commission to ensure the elections are carried out without any untoward incidents.

“We hope the public will cooperate with the authorities in maintaining security and public order at polling centres and other election-related locations so that the voting process remains safe and under control,” he added.
