JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) says it will defend the Puteri Wangsa state seat in the upcoming Johor state election.
In a statement Tuesday (June 2), the party said its victory in Puteri Wangsa in the last election showed that Johoreans were willing to give an opportunity to a new brand of politics based on integrity, courage and commitment to public service.
Muda said the party, led by president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz, has a pool of capable young leaders who are ready to represent the people at various levels in the state.
"Johor is a dynamic state with immense potential. However, the challenges faced by the people today require more than old politics and familiar faces.
"It requires leaders who understand the aspirations of the younger generation, are bold enough to pursue reforms and are prepared to defend the interests of the people," the statement said.
The party added that more young people should be given the opportunity to lead and contribute directly to decision-making at the state level.
"As such, Muda is determined to retain the Puteri Wangsa seat to ensure that the voices of Johoreans continue to be represented and championed.
"The 16th Johor state election is not merely about politics or a contest for power. It is about the future of Johor and the generation that will inherit it.
"Muda takes note of the dissolution of the Johor State Legislative Assembly and respects the decision to return the mandate to the people.
"This is an important moment for the rakyat to assess the government's performance, demand accountability from those entrusted with power and determine Johor's direction for the next five years," it said.
On Monday (June 1), Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced the dissolution in Johor Baru after seeking the consent of Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, paving the way for the 16th state election.
