PETALING JAYA: Scammers are posing as doctors to sell weight loss jabs to the public.
A clinic that administers weight loss jabs recently issued an alert on its social media page that scammers had misused its name.
“Three people got scammed after buying cheap weight loss drugs. Two pens for RM800. The price does not make sense,” it said, adding that it has never used the e-wallet platform that the scammers had sold the jabs on.
In another case, a woman said she did not receive the item despite making payments.
Checks online showed sellers offering popular semaglutide drugs for as low as RM650.
Some were offering cash on delivery option for the product.
A doctor, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said a scammer had messaged her patient and claimed to be her.
“The scammer introduced herself as me. She claimed the jabs were being sold at a promotional price and could be dispatched via courier,” she said.
Unfortunately, the patient had taken up on the offer and made payments.
“I told my patients that the jabs cannot be sent via courier as it must be refrigerated. Also, we run tests before even injecting,” she said, advising the public not to fall prey to the lure of cheap weight loss drugs.
“Pharmaceutical companies are quite strict when they supply to us, requiring us to provide proof of our practising licence and so on.
“Having said that, how can these products be sold online and dispatched through courier?” she said, adding that patients should only get such services at registered healthcare facilities.
