Anwar donates sacrificial cows to media practitioners

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim donated several sacrificial cows to media practitioners in three states for this year’s Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration, in recognition of the role journalists play in connecting the government and the people.

In Kuantan, the donation, made for the first time, was received by Pahang Press, which organised the qurban (sacrifice) programme at Kampung Anak Air here with the assistance of about 40 members of the Tok Peramu Qurban Squad.

Pahang Press chairman Fazli Ahmad said the initiative enabled the distribution of sacrificial meat to journalists and photographers from various print and electronic media organisations, as well as residents of Kampung Anak Air.

“Pahang Press would like to express its deepest appreciation to the Prime Minister for donating a cow for the ritual sacrifice, with the meat distributed to media personnel.

“For media practitioners in Pahang, this gesture carries special meaning as it reflects recognition of our role in delivering information and serving as a bridge between the government and the people,” he told reporters here yesterday, Bernama reported.

In Jerlun, the Prime Minister donated a cow to Kelab Media Elit Kedah (KMEK) in conjunction with the festivity.

The cow donation was presented by Anwar’s senior political secretary Romli Ishak to KMEK committee member Wan Nabil Nasir as a token of appreciation for the role of media practitioners in the state.

Romli said that 25 cows were donated for sacrifice, with one of them given to KMEK and the other 24 distributed to local residents.

Wan Nabil expressed his appreciation to the Prime Minister for the donation which showed his concern for media practitioners in the state.

Meanwhile in Johor, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) also donated a cow to Kelab Media Johor (KMJ) for the sacrificial ritual in conjunction with this year’s Aidiladha celebration.

KMJ deputy president 1 Mohamad Taufik Salimin said the donation was very meaningful to media personnel in Johor, especially in strengthening brotherhood and fostering the spirit of togetherness in conjunction with Aidiladha.

He said some of the meat was also distributed to the asnaf (poor) and residents around Taman Sierra Perdana, Masai, Johor Baru.
