PETALING JAYA: Around 70% personnel of the Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) have been deployed to police the roads during this festive season.

Its director Comm Datuk Seri Muhammed Hasbullah Ali said that the department had also identified 407 hotspots and 76 black spots nationwide.

Among the areas being monitored by the department are the hotspots from KM3 to KM18 of the Kota Baru-Gua Musang road, while a black spot has been identified from KM1 to KM9 of the Johor Baru-Ayer Hitam road.

“The JSPT is always prepared to ensure safety and smooth traffic flow during the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebrations by carrying out traffic enforcement, highway patrols, traffic management and traffic control at locations requiring attention,” he said.

Comm Muhammed Hasbullah said that traffic on major highways is expected to increase by between 15% and 30% during this holiday.

“The average daily traffic volume on major highways and connecting expressways is expected to reach up to 3.3 million vehicles on peak days during the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebrations,” he added.

He also urged everyone to plan accordingly and ensure their vehicles are well-maintained before setting off.

Obeying road laws such as not using handphones while driving and not driving while tired or lethargic were also imperative for a safer road environment, he stressed.

“Furthermore, all road users should practise courtesy and consideration toward others.

“Drivers are also advised not to drive emotionally or aggressively as this may endanger themselves and others.

“Road safety is a shared responsibility. Therefore, prioritise safety over speed and be courteous, responsible road users who always obey the law for the well-being of everyone,” he said.

Last Friday, the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) said it expected the average daily traffic volume on major expressways and connecting highways to reach 3.3 million vehicles on peak days.

Traffic flow is expected to increase progressively from May 22 until June 7 due to the overlap between the festive season, public holidays and school holidays.
