Azam to give statement on criminal intimidation allegations next week, says CID chief

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman is expected to meet former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki next week over allegations that he threatened businessman Albert Tei.

Criminal Investigation Department director Comm Datuk M. Kumar said police had contacted Azam and would record further statements soon.

“A meeting will be arranged next week,” Comm Kumar said when contacted on Wednesday (May 27).

Azam had earlier said he had contacted the police over Tei’s allegations.

He said he welcomed the investigation and would give his full cooperation to the authorities.

Azam also said he was considering legal action against Tei.

On Tuesday, Comm Kumar said Azam would be called up to assist in investigations into allegations made by Tei on May 13.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

Tei had previously alleged that Azam threatened, obstructed and victimised him when he attempted to expose an alleged corruption scandal involving several high-profile politicians in Sabah last year.
