One Malaysian killed in Philippine building collapse, Wisma Putra confirms


 PETALING JAYA: A Malaysian was killed while another escaped unharmed during a building collapse in Angeles City, the Philippines, on Sunday (May 24).

The Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday (May 26) that the Malaysian Embassy in Manila had provided the necessary consular support to the survivor.

"The Foreign Ministry confirms with deep regret that a Malaysian national affected by the incident has passed away," the statement read.

Wisma Putra said the victim's next of kin had been notified and the Embassy was extending consular assistance to the family, including help with funeral arrangements.

"The ministry extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased during this difficult time," it said.

The ministry also expressed appreciation to Philippine authorities for their assistance and cooperation following the incident.

"The ministry reiterates its commitment to safeguarding the welfare and safety of Malaysian citizens abroad," it said.

Earlier reports indicated that four people died in the collapse of a nine-storey building under construction, with debris falling onto an adjacent apartment hotel.

Late on Monday (May 25), emergency officials said they ended a two-day rescue operation for at least 12 people believed buried in the rubble.
