THE Tamil Nadu state government in India has issued an order to expedite approvals for up to 8,000 private hospitals, Malaysia Nanban reported.

The order came following a Cabinet-level meeting led by Health and Medical Education Minister Dr KG Arunraj.

State authorities will hold quarterly reviews for private medical hospital applications instead of once a year as previously done.

Online applications and document submissions will be accepted, and temporary licences will be issued with full licensing issued later.

The move is intended to improve medical services for the public and increase the number of healthcare facilities in urban and suburban areas.

However, with forged medical licenses and fake hospitals not uncommon in the country, critics have raised concerns about the security aspects of this expedited process.
