YONG PENG: It was good news for more than 500 newlywed couples, with each person receiving a Bantuan Kasih Johor (BKJ) assistance of RM200.

The Johor government’s financial assistance was distributed by MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, who said the funds were aimed at easing their cost of living as they build their families.

“Starting a family and building a future together is a major milestone in life.

“I hope this assistance from the state government will provide some support as couples of various races embark on their new chapter,” said the Ayer Hitam MP in a Facebook post yesterday.

Those who tied the knot last year and in 2024 are eligible for the BKJ aid.

Dr Wee, accompanied by Yong Peng assemblyman Ling Tian Soon, also presented BKJ assistance to about 1,400 housewives at SJKC Yong Peng 1 earlier in the day.

He said the aid was a form of appreciation to women as the backbone of the family as they devote much effort and make sacrifices in managing households and nurturing the next generation.

“This assistance is not only aimed at easing the financial burden faced by families, but also serves as a recognition and appreciation of the important contributions women make to both the family and society,” he said.

Dr Wee thanked Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi for staying committed to caring for vulnerable groups and ensuring that every policy reaches and benefits the families who truly need assistance.

On May 5, Onn Hafiz announced the roll-out of RM138mil under phase four of BKJ, benefitting over 600,000 people including senior citizens, housewives, petty traders and students with disabilities.
