GOF seizes 89kg of meth worth RM4.4mil, two arrested

KUALA LANGAT: The Central Brigade of the General Operations Force (GOF) arrested two individuals and seized 89 kilogrammes of methamphetamine worth RM4.4mil in a raid at the Paip Besar beachfront in Tanjung Sepat near here.

Central Brigade GOF commander SAC Hakemal Hawari said the two foreign men, believed to be in their 30s, were detained at about 11.30am on Saturday (May 23) while allegedly waiting for a boat used by illegal immigrants to leave the country.

"We believe they were waiting to leave the country and we found them hiding behind bushes.

“Investigations are ongoing to determine whether they intended to use this country as a transit point or whether the drugs were processed here,” he told a press conference here on Monday (May 25).

According to him, a mobile phone believed to have been used as a communication device for smuggling activities was also seized from the duo.

The suspects have been handed over to the Kuala Langat District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department and the Immigration Department for investigations under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and the Immigration Act 1959/63, respectively.

Meanwhile, he said that as of Monday, a total of 179 raids had been conducted in areas under the Central Brigade, with 611 individuals arrested for various offences and total seizures amounting to RM254mil. – Bernama
