Johor cops nab 13 suspects in connection with two murder cases

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police have arrested 13 suspects in connection with two murder cases in Johor Baru and Pontian.

Acting Johor police chief Deputy Comm Hoo Chuan Huat said seven foreigners aged from 17 to 45 were detained on Tuesday (May 19) to assist investigations into the murder of a technician who was found with multiple stab wounds at an apartment in Johor Baru on May 13.

He said the suspects were arrested in Masai and Mersing following intelligence gathering and follow-up investigations after police recovered the victim's car in Masai.

"All suspects have been remanded until next Tuesday (May 26) to assist investigations," he told a press conference at the Iskandar Puteri district police headquarters on Friday (May 22).

DCP Hoo said police were still investigating the motive behind the killing and did not rule out further arrests.

He confirmed that several stab wounds were found on the victim's body but declined to elaborate as investigations are ongoing.

The victim's body was discovered in an apartment unit in Prima Tebrau in a pool of blood, with a knife found beside him.

In a separate case, DCP Hoo said police arrested six local men over the murder of a 22-year-old man who was found dead outside a food outlet at Pekan Nanas in Pontian, on Thursday (May 21).

He added all the suspects were detained in several locations around Johor Baru during a special operation conducted from midnight until early Friday morning.

"The motive for the murder is still under investigation," he said.

Earlier reports stated that the 22-year-old male victim' body was found in front of a food outlet.

Both cases are being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
