Man and friends charged with murdering brother


IPOH: A man and his four friends were charged in the Magistrate’s Court here with the murder of his younger brother in Tanjung Ram­butan.

SK Siri Sakti Vell, 22, K. Thi­ru­chel­van, 33, Shashipal Singh Man­muhan Singh, 36, N. Thanesh­waran, 24, and P. Ukenthiran, 35, nodded when the charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code, together with Section 34, was read before magistrate Norizan Riduan yesterday.

If convicted, they face the death penalty or a maximum 40-year jail term, and if spared the gallows, at least 12 strokes of the rotan.

However, no plea was recorded as the offence falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

The five men, together with another suspect who is still at large, are accu­sed of murdering SK Keris­nan, 18, near the Sri Subramaniar Temple along Jalan Perpaduan Southward between 1am and 4am on Tuesday.

The accused were unrepresen­ted.

No bail was offered and mention was set for July 20 pending submission of the post-mortem report.
