Student charged with murder over fatal crash

KUALA LUMPUR: A college student, whose vehicle crashed into a couple on a motorcycle causing their death, has been charged with two counts of murder.

Danish Raman Kamar Kumaresan, 24, kept calm as the charges were read out to him before Magistrate Nurul Izzah Hasan Basri here yesterday.

He nodded his head but no plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

According to the charges, the accused allegedly murdered A. Doraisingam, 61, and his wife A. Menagah, 56, on Jalan Ampang heading to Ampang Point from KLCC at about 5.30am on May 2.

The charges were framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a death sentence, or imprisonment between 30 and 40 years, with a minimum 12 whippings, if convicted. The court fixed Aug 17 for mention.

When met outside the courtroom, K. Suresh Kumar, who is a nephew of Doraisingam, told the press that his uncle sent his wife to Gleneagles Hospital every morning as she worked there.

“My uncle and his wife have three children aged 19, 24 and 26,” he said.
