KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Wednesday (May 13) received a courtesy visit from the president and chief executive officer of the United States-Asean Business Council (US-ABC), Ambassador (retired) Brian McFeeters and a delegation in conjunction with the 2026 Malaysia Business Mission.

Anwar said through a posting on X that the meeting opened up space for discussions on the potential for strengthening investment and strategic cooperation across various sectors between the United States and Asean, especially Malaysia.

"I emphasise that Malaysia continues to enhance the country’s competitiveness through a clear economic framework such as the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030, the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and the New Incentive Framework (NIF) which are more targeted and results-based,” he said.

He added that this effort reflects the Madani Government’s commitment to strengthening sustainability, economic resilience and upgrading the country’s industries, while ensuring that quality investments continue to provide long-term benefits to the people and the country.

On Tuesday (May 12), Bernama reported that 22 firms from the United States were participating in an investment mission in Malaysia to explore investment opportunities across various sectors and as part of efforts to strengthen business ties with Asean, which has the potential to become the world's fourth-largest economy by the end of this decade.

McFeeters reportedly said his delegation consists of firms from artificial intelligence (AI), energy, financial services and insurance. — Bernama
