New MyKad rollout will not disrupt aid redemptions, says NRD

PUTRAJAYA: The National Registration Department (NRD) has assured the public that the transition and replacement process for the new-structure MyKad, set to begin this June, will not disrupt the redemption of government aid that uses the national identity card system.

The department said assistance schemes such as Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) and Budi Madani RON95 would continue as usual throughout the implementation process.

“The list of existing aid recipients in the system will remain intact and no eligible recipients will be left out during the transition to the new MyKad structure,” the NRD said in a statement on Wednesday (May 13).

The statement was issued in response to concerns raised over possible technical disruptions or the removal of names from aid recipient lists following the rollout of the upgraded MyKad system.

The department said it has established close cooperation with various ministries and agencies involved in aid distribution to ensure data integrity remains secure and uninterrupted.

It said the migration of information would take place automatically through the central database system, ensuring eligible recipients continue to receive government assistance without interruption.

“The enhanced security features incorporated into the new-structure MyKad will further strengthen the identity verification process for aid recipients.

“The new MyKad structure will continue to support the existing ecosystem used for subsidy and aid distribution purposes,” it said.

The NRD said it understood public concerns, particularly among vulnerable groups who depend heavily on government assistance, adding that its priority was to improve identity security without causing inconvenience to the rakyat.

It advised the public not to be misled by rumours or false information claiming government aid would be stopped if MyKad holders failed to replace their cards immediately.

It said the replacement exercise would be carried out in phases, with detailed information on application procedures to be announced soon.

For further enquiries, the public can visit the official NRD website or refer to the department’s official social media channels.
