KUALA LUMPUR: Indian community organisations have welcomed the decision to increase the allocation for the Malaysian Indian Community Transformation Unit (Mitra) from RM100mil to RM150mil, describing the move as a boost for community empowerment efforts.
Baling District Indian Welfare and Reform Association chairman S Chandar Chandru said the increase reflected the Madani Government's continued commitment to uplifting the Indian community.
He said the move showed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Ramanan Ramakrishnan were serious about ensuring the welfare and development of the community remained a priority.
"This move gives confidence that the government is genuinely serious about empowering the Indian community, particularly in the areas of education, economic growth and community development," he said.
Negri Sembilan Human Development Association secretary Daniel Selvarayar described the additional funding as a progressive step that would strengthen human capital development, skills training and entrepreneurship among Indian youths.
"We believe this allocation will create more opportunities for the Indian community to enhance their potential and improve their standard of living," he said.
Meanwhile, Malaysian People's Health Association secretary Kartik Beleyapan said the increase reflected the government's commitment to ensuring inclusive development for all segments of society.
"This additional allocation brings renewed hope to the Indian community, especially those who require support to build a better future," he said.
The additional RM50mil is expected to benefit initiatives related to education, human capital development, skills training, entrepreneurship and welfare programmes for the Indian community nationwide.
