Cameraman injured while covering Sabah CM in Semporna

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor greets media practitioner Saiful Azizul after he was injured during coverage of an official programme at Pulau Mataking, Semporna.

SEMPORNA: A cameraman covering Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor’s working visit to Pulau Mataking suffered a fractured leg after slipping on rocks while filming an official programme on Thursday (May 7).

The injured media personnel, identified as Saiful Azizul from Astro Awani Sabah, was recording footage of Hajiji releasing turtle hatchlings when the incident occurred.

Saiful is understood to have slipped on rocks near the beach area, causing him to fracture his calf bone.

Hajiji immediately instructed medical personnel and officers from the Chief Minister’s Department to assist the injured cameraman following the incident.

“I would like to thank the Sabah Chief Minister, officers from the Chief Minister’s Department, and the medical personnel who assisted me,” Saiful said when contacted.

He was taken to the Semporna District Hospital for initial treatment before being referred to Lahad Datu Hospital for further examination.

Saiful said he is scheduled to meet the orthopaedic department on May 12 to determine the next course of treatment and is currently recuperating at home.

On Friday (May 8), Lahad Datu district officer Firuz Ben also delivered a special financial contribution from Hajiji to Saiful.

The incident highlighted the risks often faced by media personnel while covering assignments in challenging environments, especially during outdoor and on-location coverage.
