Christina Tseu Cheau Wei (right), 36, arrives at the Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (May 7) where she pleaded not guilty to cheating a buyer of RM41,288 over a non-existent Hermes luxury handbag purchase.

JOHOR BARU: A woman pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate’s Court here to cheating a buyer into buying a non-existent luxury handbag amounting to over RM41,000.

Online seller Christina Tseu Cheau Wei, 36, was accused of deceiving Teh Ann Na, 53, into transferring RM41,288 into her bank account for the alleged purchase of a Hermes Mini Lindy handbag at Laguna Heights Condominium at 11.31am on Aug 26 last year.

Tseu was charged under Section 417 of the Penal Code for cheating, which provides for a jail term of up to five years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Fatihah Mohd Nizam requested bail at RM10,000.

The accused’s counsel Jason Tan Ka Yan asked for a lower bail, saying that the accused was supporting her mother who suffers from blood cancer as well as her two children aged 12 and 17.

The lawyer also told the court that the accused was an online trader with irregular income.

Magistrate A. Shaarmini then set bail at RM4,000 with one surety and fixed June 9 for next mention.
