I have failed to unite the Malays, says Dr M

KLANG: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad says he has failed to unify the Malays.

In a Facebook post Thursday (May 7), the former prime minister said that this was in spite of efforts over the past two years.

"I have put in effort for more than two years to unite the Malay people.

"I have to admit that I have failed," said the 100-year-old statesman.

Given this, he added that the country will "slip from the hands of the Malays".

"And that will end the history of the Malay people because they are prioritising the fate of leaders rather than race, country and religion," Dr Mahathir lamented.

The pessimistic statement follows his role, after his retirement, of advocating the consolidation of Malay political power.
