BANGI: Sophisticated modus operandi involving the use of digital technology and cross-border transactions are among the increasingly complex challenges faced by the nation’s graft-buster in combating corruption, says Tan Sri Azam Baki (pic).
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner said this changing landscape requires officers to uphold higher standards of professionalism, transparency and integrity.
“The evolution of corruption modus operandi is becoming more advanced, involving digital technologies, cross-border transactions and more organised networks.
“It is crucial for us to continue strengthening organisational resilience, enhancing staff competency and practising a culture of integrity,” he said at the MACC Excellent Service Award (APC) 2025 ceremony held at the Bangi Avenue Convention Centre yesterday.
He added that the MACC is also grappling with issues of public perception and trust in an era of borderless information, where enforcement actions are constantly scrutinised both locally and internationally.
A total of 233 MACC officers received the APC award this year, comprising 146 recipients from headquarters and 87 from state offices.
In addition, 33 Special Awards and two Gold Awards were presented under the Chief Commissioner’s Award (AKPJ), involving 67 nominations.
Azam said these achievements reflect the organisation’s continued excellence grounded in integrity, which further strengthens public confidence in the commission.
The Strategic Communications Division also received a Special AKPJ Award for its project, which gained international recognition in strategic communications.
Meanwhile, the Investigation Division received a Gold AKPJ Award for uncovering a procurement cartel involving the Malaysian Armed Forces through Ops Parasit and Ops Star.
Another Gold Award was presented to the Legal and Prosecution Division for its success in handling high-profile cases such as 1Malaysia Development Bhd involving former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Azam also highlighted the MACC’s achievements both domestically and internationally, including the signing of MOUs with countries such as the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
