ALOR SETAR: A man who was previously detained for allegedly assaulting his wife is now under investigation for burying a miscarried baby.
Kedah police chief Comm Datuk Adzli Abu Shah said it is believed that the wife, who was 12 weeks' pregnant at the time, miscarried following the alleged assault.
"The police, accompanied by a forensic team, took the 43-year-old suspect and his 39-year-old wife to the Masjid Al-Gufran Islamic Cemetery," he said during a press conference at the Kedah police headquarters on Tuesday ( May 5).
He said the suspect and the woman pointed out the site where the baby was buried and the forensic team excavated the area.
Tthe team managed to find some dried-up remains but could not determine its nature.

Comm Adzli said a sample of the remains was sent to the Chemistry Department for analysis.
"If confirmed (it is human remains), we will open an investigation under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealing a birth," he said.
He urged others who have been victimised by the suspect to come forward.
It was reported that the woman, a civil servant, was brutally assaulted, resulting in the miscarriage.
She was treated at Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim a fractured arm and fingers as well as bruising on her face and bruises and abdominal trauma.
The woman alleged she was beaten with various objects, including a clothes hanger, rubber hose, curtain rod and a broom handle.
On April 28, police arrested the suspect at a homestay in Alor Setar.
