Man who caused wife's miscarriage was married nine times, targeted civil servants, say cops

The man believed to have assaulted his wife, causing her to suffer a miscarriage in Ambangan Heights, had a modus operandi of taking civil servants as wives to support his livelihood.

Kedah police chief Comm Datuk Adzli Abu Shah said investigations found that the 43-year-old suspect had been married nine times, and all of his current and former wives were civil servants.

“The suspect is understood have been married nine times and still has three wives. He looks for partners with stable jobs because he does not have steady employment.

“He has a long criminal record and has previously been charged four times under Section 325, Section 323, Section 318 and Section 506 of the Penal Code,” he said at a press conference at the Kedah Police Headquarters here on Wednesday (April 29).

According to Sinar Harian, police managed to arrest the suspect, identified as Rosmaini Abd. Raof, at a homestay in the city on Tuesday (April 28) following reports lodged by the victim’s brother on April 23 and by the victim herself on April 26.

The suspect, who has 11 children, has been remanded for seven days until May 5 for further investigation.

“Initially, the investigation paper was opened under Section 325 of the Penal Code, but it was later changed to Section 326 of the same code after it was found that the victim had been beaten with several objects, including an iron rod and a plastic clothes hanger, causing bruises all over her body, broken ribs on the left and right, spinal fractures and a miscarriage,” Comm Adzli said.

Authorities previously confirmed that the suspect was the same man involved in a 2021 case in Larkin, Johor, in which civil servant Jahidah Nordin was reported to have been assaulted by her husband, resulting in severe injuries, including brain bleeding that required part of her skull to be removed.
