JOHOR BARU: Johor recorded a decline in cumulative dengue cases for epidemiological week 17/2026 (Epi Week), with 1,940 cases compared with 2,128 cases in Epi Week 17/2025.
State health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said this represented an 8.8% drop for the corresponding period, with 648 cases (33.4%) classified as locality cases and 1,292 cases (66.6%) as non-locality cases.
“There were two cumulative deaths as of Epi Week 17/2026, compared with four cumulative deaths in Epi Week 17/2025,” he said in a statement on Monday (May 4).
Ling said Johor Baru district recorded the highest number of cases, with 127 (77.9%), followed by Kulai with 14 cases (8.6%) and Kluang with eight cases (4.9%).
He said Pontian recorded five cases (3.1%), Batu Pahat three cases (1.8%), and Kota Tinggi and Tangkak two cases each (1.2%), respectively.
“Muar and Segamat recorded one case each (0.6%), while no cases were reported in Mersing,” Ling added.
He said Johor Baru’s seven hotspots were Bukit Batu, Kulai, Bandar, Jelutong, Plentong, Pulai, Sungai Tiram, Tebrau, and Tanjung Kupang/Gelang Patah.
Ling said the four hotspots in Kulai were Bukit Batu, Kulai, Sedenak, and Senai.
He said the eight hotspots in Kluang were Kahang, Kluang, Layang-Layang, Machap, Nyior, Paloh, Rengam, and Ulu Benut.
