KUCHING: The Sarawak government is planning to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) data campus in Tanjung Embang to drive investment and strengthen the state's AI data centre ecosystem.

The Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) said the plan was announced by Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg (pic) during his official working visit to the K2 Strategic Data Centre Campus in Dublin, Ireland, on Saturday (May 2).

Abang Johari said a 405-hectare site has been identified for the high-impact project.

"The proposed campus, to be known as the Kuching AI Data Campus, will be equipped with dedicated power and water supply facilities to support data centre operations.

"The project will be implemented through a public-private partnership (PPP), beginning with a first phase covering 120 hectares," read the statement on Sunday.

Abang Johari added that the development will be modelled after the world-class facility he visited.

The initiative also supports large-scale development plans in Tanjung Embang, including a new airport, seaport and low-carbon industrial development. - Bernama
