Nepalese worker fined RM5,000 over obscene images of ex-girlfriend


PONTIAN: A Nepalese factory worker has been fined RM5,000 by the Magistrate’s Court for possessing obscene videos and photos of his local ex-girlfriend.

Santosh Mukhiya, 24, pleaded guilty to the charge.

According to the charge, the victim’s friend informed her that her obscene images were posted by the accused on his social media status at 11am on April 26.

.Santosh, who works at a factory in Pekan Nanas, was subsequently arrested and his smartphone seized by the police, where the photos and videos were found.

The offence was framed under Section 292 of the Penal Code for possession of obscene materials, which is punishable with a jail sentence of up to three years, a fine or both upon conviction.

Santosh, who was unrepresented, asked the court for a lighter sentence as he has to care for his family in Nepal.

Magistrate Nurhafiza Haron ordered him to pay a fine of RM5,000 in default of five months’ jail.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Insp Syabira Anis Mohd Rodzi from the police force.

Santosh paid the fine.
