Three nabbed for impersonating cops to extort money from foreigner

HULU SELANGOR: Three men have been arrested after they had allegedly masqueraded as policemen to extort a foreigner.

Hulu Selangor OCPD Supt Ibrahim Husin said that the victim, who works as a shop assistant, had been approached by the suspects within the Bukit Beruntung area.

“In his report that was lodged on April 28 the victim was extorted by the suspects who claimed to be police officers. They demanded a payment of RM3,000 and claimed that they would take action against him if he refused to pay.

“Acting on information gathered, the police then acted swiftly to arrest the three suspects at the scene of the crime,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (April 29).

The three, aged 42 to 59, all tested negative for drugs, but one was found to have a criminal record.

“They have been remanded for three days, starting April 29,” he said.

He added that the case has been deemed solved with the arrest of the three suspects.
