Seven nabbed in illegal frozen food raid in KL

PETALING JAYA: Seven people were arrested in Bukit Aman-led raids in Kuala Lumpur, to detect illegal frozen foodstuffs.

Wildlife Crime Control Bureau/Special Investigation Intelligence (WCB/PSK) Bukit Aman commander Senior Asst Comm Datuk Mohd Zaki Ashar said that three locations in Kepong and the Sri Edaran industrial area were raided on Wednesday (April 29).

Of the seven arrested, two were premises owners, while the remaining five were foreign workers who did not possess documentation.

The raids also led to the seizure of around RM546,991.50 of foodstuffs, including 15,205kg of frozen pig carcasses.

“All seizures of frozen foodstuffs were conducted by the Kuala Lumpur Veterinary Department for further action. The arrested suspects have been handed over to the Sentul police for offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63.

“These arrests and seizures have successfully broken the syndicate’s chain of smuggling, distribution and the selling of illegal frozen goods that have been active within the Kuala Lumpur area,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
