Road safety upgrades along Jalan Tapah-Cameron Highlands to be completed by May

KUALA LUMPUR: Increased safety measures for the Jalan Tapah-Cameron Highlands route are ongoing and will be completed by next month, says Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

The Works Minister said several short-term safety measures had already been put in place along the route, such as string delineators to improve visual guidance for road users.

He added that more permanent safety features are also currently being installed as part of the first phase to improve road user safety along the infamous route.

“Guardrails, traffic signs and solar blinker lights that were previously missing are also being installed.

“These will be at 45 locations identified under the first phase and are expected to be completed by May 15," he said in a press conference after officiating the launch of the International Conference on Slope (ICOS) 2026 here on Wednesday (April 29).

Nanta added that additional medium and long-term safety measures are currently being planned to ensure a more comprehensive road safety ecosystem for the route.

This comes after a car driving along the road was recorded veering off the road and falling into a ravine on April 23, resulting in the death of the male driver and injuries to his five family members in his car.
