MELAKA: Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said he remains grateful to his former teachers for correcting his behaviour in school and guiding him onto the right path.
He said their role in shaping his character left a lasting impact, and he continues to hold them in high regard.
"I still have four of my teachers who are in good health despite having retired some time ago.
"I have the utmost respect for them and thank them for shaping me each time when I meet one of them," he said at an event to honour 11 students from the state who achieved straight A+ in the 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination at Seri Negeri in Ayer Keroh here on Monday (April 27).
The event was attended by the students' parents, officials from the Melaka Education Department and school representatives.
Ab Rauf said the state's 2025 SPM results showed improvement, with the Grade Point Average improving to 4.26 from 4.43 in 2024.
"This figure is not merely a statistic. Behind it lies the tireless efforts of teachers, parents and the students themselves," he said.
He added that beyond the 11 top scorers, 470 candidates secured straight A's in all subjects, describing it as a source of pride for the state.
Ab Rauf said the state government, through Tabung Amanah Pendidikan Melaka, presented RM1,000 to each student who obtained straight A+.
He also announced a contribution of paint worth RM100,000 to selected schools across 28 state constituencies to refurbish classrooms and other parts of school buildings.
