Cops probing FB post that allegedly insulted Selangor Ruler


KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 21 police reports have been lodged against a Facebook post for allegedly insulting the Sultan of Selangor.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Comm Datuk M. Kumar said an investigation has been opened over an offensive image allegedly targeting the Sultan on Saturday (April 25).

"So far, 21 individuals, including those who lodged reports, have been called in to have their statements recorded to assist in the investigation," he said in a statement on Monday (April 27).

The case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, he said.

"We have identified the owner or administrator of the Facebook account involved, and investigations are ongoing, including the seizure of devices believed to have been used to upload the content," he added.

According to Comm Kumar, the investigation is being conducted by the CID Special Investigation Unit with the cooperation of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.

"Stern action without compromise will be taken against any individual who misuses social media for unlawful purposes, including matters related to race, religion and royalty (3R).

"Freedom of speech under Article 10 of the Federal Constitution has its limits.

"The public is advised to remain prudent and responsible when making statements or sharing content in public spaces or on social media," he added.
