PETALING JAYA: Police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) are urged to probe an offensive image linked to royalty.
Selangor Islamic religious affairs and cultural innovation committee chairman Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah condemned the image, saying its uncivilised, violates societal norms and goes against the high values of respect for the royal institution.
“His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor has always been the protector of the state, the guardian of the sanctity of Islam, and the symbol of unity and stability for the people of Selangor,” he said in a statement on April 26.
“Therefore, any attempt to tarnish the good name of the royal institution is deeply regrettable and wholly unacceptable.
“The act not only demeans dignity, but the use of “fake accounts” on social media is a cowardly act that can spark tension among Malaysia’s multiracial and multi‑faith society.
“I urge the Royal Malaysia Police to conduct an immediate investigation and take firm action against all parties involved, and MCMC must quickly monitor, block, and remove such insulting content, in accordance with its legal powers.
He claimed that the role of the Communications Ministry is crucial in ensuring that the social media ecosystem remains safe, ethical, and responsible, including intensifying public awareness efforts on prudent and respectful media usage.
