KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 13 districts across five states are currently under a Level 1 hot weather alert as of 6am on Saturday (April 25), says Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.
The Health Minister said one district in Kelantan has also escalated to Level 2 heatwave status.
The Level 1 (alert) areas comprise Perlis; Kedah (Kubang Pasu, Pokok Sena, Pendang, Padang Terap and Sik); Kelantan (Jeli, Tanah Merah, Pasir Mas and Kuala Krai); Perak (Kuala Kangsar and Hulu Perak) and Pahang (Jerantut).
“Machang in Kelantan is currently experiencing Level 2 hot weather conditions, indicating a heatwave,” he told reporters when met here on Saturday.
Dzulkefly added that no heat-related cases were reported on Friday (April 24).
However, the cumulative number of heat-related illnesses recorded nationwide this year remains at 41 cases.
“These comprise 35 cases of heat exhaustion, three cases of exertional heat stroke involving physically active individuals such as athletes and police personnel, two cases of heat stroke, including one confinement-related case and one case of heat cramps,” he said.
On a separate matter, Dzulkefly expressed his support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s proposal to limit the movement of Cabinet members in light of current challenges.
“The Madani government, under the leadership of the Prime Minister, has always prioritised prudent financial governance, especially in facing current crises.
“The Prime Minister had said the immediate measure was necessary to ensure Malaysia does not fall into an energy rationing situation similar to that faced by other countries,” he said.
A final decision on the matter will be made at an upcoming National Economic Action Council (MTEN) meeting.
