Flasher jailed seven years for exposing himself to minor


KOTA KINABALU: A 63-year-old local man was jailed seven years for exposing his genitals to a toddler in Sandakan earlier this month.

Abdul Wahid Abd Salam pleaded guilty before Sessions Court judge Rolinda Razali to the charge under Section 15(a)(i) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which criminalises non-physical sexual assault against minors.

He was accused of exposing himself to a two-and-a-half-year-old girl at an unnumbered house in Kapung Settinggan Mangkalinau in Sandakan at about 10.30am last Saturday (April 18).

In an unrelated case, a 24-year-old lorry assistant, who has raped his teenage sister since she was 12-years-old, was sentenced to 15 years’ jail and 12 strokes of the cane by Kota Kinabalu Sessions Court judge Zaini Fishir Fisal.

The accused pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 376 (3) of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to 30 years and caning upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, the accused had raped his younger sister at a workers’ quarters in Putatan in December 2021 when she was 15 years old.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Fazriel Fardiansyah Abdul Kadir told the court that the victim, now 19 years old, lodged a police report against her brother last year and informed investigators that he first raped her when she was 12.
